Summer Reading List

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

What is it about the summertime that makes people want to read? I could be on a island about that but its definitely true for myself. If you haven’t found a good book for the summer, try checking out The Modern Library 100 Best list. I’ll sadly admit that I probably only have a handful of books knocked off that list (of which most are attributed to English class in grade school), but I plan to change that this summer. Nothing suits your fancy on that list? If your into sci-fi, I recommend Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash (or anything from Stephenson for that matter). While its not on Modern Library’s list, it is a critically acclaimed novel that I’ve seen on many other “Best Of” lists.

Ubuntu Dual Boot

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

I run a dual boot of linux and XP on my home PC. I recently upgraded my linux install to Ubuntu Feisty Fawn. The only gripe I have is that there is no flash plugin for the 64 bit version of firefox (which I use since I run an AMD 64 processor). That means no YouTube! Of course there are workarounds but nothing that completely fixes the problem. Anyways, if you are interested in installing Ubuntu on an existing Windows machine here is a great tutorial to do so. Also, you may want to check out this Lifehacker article for must have apps, and this is probably the best Ubuntu guide/reference I’ve come across for Feisty Fawn.

Enjoy!
